Last Meals are No Longer Permitted in Texas

Texas has made the decision to deny any last meal request by inmates on death row. The decision was made after an inmate made a "ridiculous"(two chicken fried steaks, a triple meat bacon cheeseburger, a cheese omelet, a large bowl of fried okra, three fajitas, a pint of Blue Bell ice cream, and a pound of barbecue with a half loaf of white bread), request for his last meal, but didn't eat any of the food. Senator John Witmire disapproved of catering to inmates. Whitmire contacted the director of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice states “No death-row inmate prior to execution should be catered to," he said. "It's just common sense.” Although these inmates may have committed terrible crimes, they are still human and should be given an opportunity to enjoy one small part of life before being executed.

  1. Wow i do believe in enforcing the law to the fullest extent and degree but jeez why in the world go that far with it. Texas just keeps taking it to another level. They should realize that him ordering all that food was doing it to be funny and see if they would actually get it all as requested. Any fool with common sense wouldve been like mane you are not going to eat all that stuff now quite playing around. I could say im surprised but hey it is Texas they swear up and down they are their own country

  2. Again I think any reasonable request should be honored, the man(woman) is getting ready to die why not give them a nice last meal.

  3. I am curious as to what the man did to be on death row. How many murders did he commit? How brutal was the crime? I understand what you are saying give him mercy by giving him his last meal, but what if that inmate had been a problem inmate. What if he had killed other inmates? Maybe the request was his waying of bucking up to the people who were over him. Is it reasonable that he killed someone? Just a thought. I know someone personally who is the mother of a person who is going to trial for the the murder of a couple. I pray to God for that family, but I do not forget the family that lost a mother and father because of his vicious act. Each person is valuable in the eyes of the Lord. God judges a man's heart. But as we judge Texas for this cruelty for not giving the man his last meal we need to also remember that he made the choices that brought him to the place of imprisonment.
